The Kootenays

Located in the southeastern corner of British Columbia, the Kootenay region is home to pristine rivers, lakes, waterfalls, beaches, mineral hot springs, alpine meadows and snow-capped mountains.

In select microclimates, grapes have been grown in the Kootenays since 1995. Although a new viticultural area, ground crops and orchards have been cultivated there for many decades.

FACT: The Kootenays wine region is the closest BC wine region to the Alberta border.

FACT: Viticulture in the Kootenays wine region takes place on valley floors with the warmest portions being in the Creston Valley, Grand Forks and, potentially, the Rock Creek area.

FACT: Rocky mountains, rivers, and valleys are signatures to this wine region that is home to the well-known Columbia brewing company.
