As one of Vancouver Island’s oldest estate vineyards and a long-time family-owned winery, Blue Grouse produces exceptional Cowichan Valley wines which express their place of origin – and a lot of personality, to boot! Elegant, fresh, cool-climate style, rich in balanced acidity, and intense in flavor, Blue Grouse wines are meant to be enjoyed and sure to be remembered. Once the preferred habitat of Blue Grouse, the 45 acres of Blue Grouse Estate are tucked away on a sunny slope of Vancouver Island’s Cowichan Valley, which is believed to take its name from a First Nation's word meaning "the warm land". A fitting name, as the valley enjoys Canada’s warmest mean temperature. The terroir encompasses wind protection by evergreen trees, an all-Southern exposure, a combination of clay and gravelly soil, and the nurturing of pure air and spring water. Our Estate wines come entirely from our own vineyards where we have the most control over the quality of our grapes. Some of these are the original vines that the Kiltz family discovered after buying the Blue Grouse property in the late 1980’s, some are plantings from the 1990’s, when Hans Kiltz transplanted French vines, and as our newest vineyards mature, those grapes will find their way into our Estate wines too.
For the harmony of sustainable winemaking, farm fresh ingredients and protecting the honey bees we have designed an award winning line up of honey wines, otherwise known as mead. Join us for a wine or honey tasting in our new modern artisan farm winery where we also have a beautiful gift shop and U-pick thornless blackberries in season.
Deol Family Estate Winery is a family owned and operated winery, situated in the heart of Cowichan Valley, just an hour north of Victoria. We have been growing vines since 1984, first in the Okanagan Valley and now in North Cowichan. We brought our experience and passion for grapes to the Cowichan Valley in 1999, when our family purchased an old 32 acre dairy farm. With much hard work and dedication, we were able to establish our 18 acre vineyard. We have eight varieties of grapes; the main varities ranging from Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, Marechal Foch and Gamay Noir. We started off selling our grapes to local wineries, but in 2008 we released our first vintage of wines. So come by and enjoy the taste of our wines and get to know a little more about us and our journey in this ever-growing wine industry.
Simply put, Emandare Vineyard is our home and we are privileged to work alongside nature to capture a glimpse of this place in every bottle. Emandare sits on a unique, south-facing hillside in the rain shadow of Mount Prevost overlooking Somenos Lake. This combination creates a unique piece of land ideal for wine growing. All of the wines from Emandare are 100% estate grown and dry farmed organically on our 8.5-acre North Cowichan vineyard. We are not certified organic but choose to farm this way because working along side nature is at the core of our wine growing philosophy. The vineyard is full of life and our goal is to capture a glimpse of this place in every bottle through old world, low intervention, natural wine making methods. At the end of the day, what`s in your glass is not as important as who you are sharing it with.
