The BC Wine Institute, BC Wine Grape Council, the BC Grape Growers' Association and the British Columbia Wine Authority are pleased to host the inaugural BC Wine Industry Insight Forum. The forum is an opportunity to hear from industry experts on issues that affect and will drive our collective success. Topics will include Climate Change, Working Collaboratively – A Washington State producers perspective, Ministry of Agriculture plans for 2018/2019 and research affecting the value chain – from vineyard to consumer.

Maya_Lange.jpgMaya Lange - Vice President, Global Marketing, Destination BC 

Maya Lange is Vice President of Global Marketing for Destination BC. Maya joined Destination BC in 2014 and has a proven track record of managing strong brands on the local, national and world stage. Maya brings a wealth of experience in digital media, CRM and integrated marketing communications. Her education background includes an MBA from the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto. At Destination BC, Maya is responsible for leading global marketing efforts in 14 domestic and international markets to drive over 22 million trips to and within BC annually. Maya leads the global strategy encompassing content, brand, travel media, travel trade, consumer-direct, social and digital.

Wes_Shoemaker.jpgWes Shoemaker – Deputy Minister, BC Ministry of Agriculture

Wes Shoemaker is Deputy Minister, with BC Ministry of Agriculture. Previously, he held the role of Deputy Minister for Environment, and Deputy Minister for Public Safety and Solicitor General where he led the government’s emergency management, road safety, and consumer protection programs on behalf of the Province of BC. Shoemaker is a Harvard fellow, has an MBA, Bachelor of Science and has participated on many community and professional boards and associations.

Greg_Jones.jpgDr. Greg Jones - Director of Wine Education, Linfield College

Dr. Jones is a research climatologist who specializes in the study of climate structure and suitability for viticulture, and how climate variability influences grapevine growth, wine production and quality. He conducts applied research for the grape and wine industry in Oregon and has given hundreds of international, national and regional presentations on climate and wine related research. He was named to Decanter Magazine's Power List representing the top 50 most influential people in the world of wine.

Dr._Pat_Bowen.jpgDr. Pat Bowen - Research Scientist, Viticulture and Plant Physiology - Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada

Dr. Pat Bowen is an UBC alumna who completed her PhD in Ecology and Viticulture at the University of California, Davis. Dr. Bowen is a plant physiologist and viticulture researcher at the Pacific Agri-Food Research Centre (PARC) in Summerland and an Adjunct Professor in the Irving K. Barber School of Arts and Sciences at UBC Okanagan. Her research is directed towards understanding vineyard ecology and the interactive effects of terroir and cultural management on grape and wine quality.

Lee_Cartier.jpgLee Cartier – Agrologist & Professor, Okanagan College

Lee Cartier is a Professional Agrologist (economics & business management) and is a member of the British Columbia Institute of Aerologist’s Lee is a professor in the Okanagan School of Business at Okanagan College. He currently teaches in the areas of Strategic Management, New Product Development and Government Policy. His research interests are in rural entrepreneurship and the economics of industry development. He holds a Master of Science Degree from the University of Windsor and has completed the Chartered Business Valuator's Program of studies through the University of Toronto. Lee is a recognized expert in both the B.C. Grape and Wine industry, and the Tree Fruit industry. 


SvanLembke.jpgSvan Lembke - Professor, Okanagan College

Svan Lembke holds a PhD from the University of Auckland, NZ.  Svan’s background is in management and consulting roles in large corporate organizations such as Deloitte, SAP and Deutsche Telekom’s T-Systems. Svan is applying her experience from technology innovation and business development to rural entrepreneurship in the Okanagan. Her research interests are in the economics of industry development and international trade. The focus of her research at Okanagan College is centered around cluster development, the role of government and industry strategy on innovation.

Since his first vintage in 1997 Betz Family Winery had a single goal of crafting compelling wines with individual character that are approachable and age worthy, and which showcase Washington as a distinguished wine region of the world.
