Sean Nelson


Sean has been a lifelong hospitality professional starting in the late 1990’s and working from Dishwasher to Manager and as Sommelier of Vij’s Restaurant since 2014. He began pursuing wine more seriously in 2011 and in 2012 passed the WSET Intermediate and Advanced certifications with Distinction and Merit. In 2013 he travelled and worked in Australia before returning to Vancouver with a new goal of passing the Master Sommelier Examination. He completed his Introductory Sommelier Exam in late 2013 with a perfect score, in 2014 passed his Certified Sommelier Exam and in 2016 passed his Advanced Sommelier Examination on the first attempt to became Western Canada’s youngest Advanced Sommelier, at the time, one of only 5 in British Columbia.

He is currently planning to sit the Master Sommelier Examination in 2019. Working with with Chef Vikram Vij’s innovative, modern Indian cuisine, Sean has put together a diverse, engaging yet approachable wine list that combines familiar favourites with new discoveries and pushes the boundaries of food and wine pairing. Vij’s Restaurant has been awarded Platinum at the Vancouver Wine Festival Wine List Awards of Excellence in 2016, 2017, and 2018 and in 2017 was named one of Wine Enthusiast Magazine’s Top 10 Wine Restaurants in Canada.
