Brad Royale, Emcee & Judge

Brad Royale is the Wine Director for Canadian Rocky Mountain Resorts (CRMR) where he oversees 6 beautiful properties throughout Alberta and British Columbia.  Royale is in charge of purchasing, menu design and staff training for CRMR’s boutique restaurants and lodges.  Royale has been involved in retail and restaurant management for eighteen years and holds credentials from both the ISG sommelier program as well as the WSET Diploma program. Known for his discerning tasting skills, Royale has been involved in professional wine judging for the past 10 years, being retained by Wine Access, Culinaire Magazine and 

Royale travels frequently to meet new producers and explore new wines. His travels take him all over the world including regions in Italy, France, Spain, Morocco, Austria, Germany, United States, Chile, Australia, Portugal, Argentina, Australia and Japan.  In his role at CRMR, Royale has won multiple awards for his extensive wine programs from Wine Spectator, Wine Enthusiast, World of Fine Wine (Three Stars) and The Vancouver Wine Festival.  In 2012 Brad launched his own wine label, Kitten Swish, a micro-negotiant that sources carefully curated wines from France, Germany, Spain, United States, Hungary and Canada.                      Twitter & Instagram: @bradroyale


Dan Clapson 

Dan Clapson is the The Globe and Mail restaurant critic for the Canadian Prairies and co-founder of popular culinary site, Eat North. Considered to be one of the top authorities on the Canadian food and drink scene, he is regular guest expert on television programs like Cityline, Global Calgary and CTV Morning Live Vancouver.

Proudly born in Saskatchewan, he’s somewhat embarrassed that he’s never been to a Saskatchewan Roughriders game, but you can’t do it all, right? When Clapson is not writing, eating or traveling across Canada, he’s probably relaxing at a pub in Calgary with some friends or watching RuPaul’s Drag Race.

Rhys Pender, MW

An educator, wine lover, judge, writer, and grape grower/farmer, Rhys Pender MW has worked in the wine industry since he was a teenager. Pender has pursued his passion for food and wine by completing a professional culinary diploma and all levels of the WSET, and in 2010 he became Canada's youngest Master of Wine. He runs a WSET wine school and consultancy through his business Wine Plus+, and when he’s not travelling around the world he can be found with his boots in the dirt at his small four acre vineyard and winery in the Similkameen Valley - Little Farm Winery.

He is a regular contributor to publications such as, Macleans, Montecristo, SIP and Taste. Pender judges wine competitions internationally such as the Decanter World Wine Awards and TexSom International Wine Awards, as well as for WineAlign and the British Columbia Wine Awards in Canada.

Shelley Boettcher

Based in Calgary, Shelley Boettcher is an award-winning writer whose work has appeared in newspapers and magazines around the world, including The Guardian, the Toronto Star, The Globe and Mail, Christie's International Real Estate magazine and more. A former deputy lifestyles editor for the Calgary Herald, she is a contributor to Travel Alberta's website, a national wine columnist for CBC Radio’s morning weekend shows, and the author of three books about wine.

She started her magazine career as the assistant editor of Avenue magazine, followed by four years as the executive editor of Wine Access magazine.
