Pommier Ranch Meadery

Pommier Ranch Meadery

Caleb, a passionate beekeeper since the age of 11, combined his love for bees and chemistry to establish the Pommier Ranch Meadery, nestled in the Rocky Mountains of Skookumchuck, BC. His enthusiasm for his craft is evident in his willingness to answer any questions about mead making and beekeeping, and in the detailed tours he offers of his Meadery.
In 2016, Caleb relocated from Calgary to the Kootenays to construct his state-of-the-art Meadery, sparing no detail. The Meadery boasts a fermentation room, a mead experimental lab, a honey processing production area, and a welcoming tasting room. Visitors are invited to explore the hop yard, where the hops for his unique mead are grown, and one of the five bee yards where the honey for the mead is harvested. Caleb’s dedication to his craft and his attention to detail make a visit to Pommier Ranch Meadery a truly unique experience.

Caleb, with 17 years of beekeeping experience, oversees five bee yards, including one on the same ranch where the mead is produced. This yard is a highlight of the tour. Bees play a crucial role in farming, fostering a symbiotic relationship with the land. For example, the bees from our yards are responsible for pollinating the apple trees on our ranch, some of which were planted nearly 90 years ago by Emile Pommier. This diverse range of apple varieties, pollinated by our bees, contributes to the unique and distinct flavor of our Cyser. The symbiotic relationship between our bees and the apple trees is a testament to the importance of beekeeping in sustainable farming and the production of unique, high-quality beverages like our Cyser. Caleb’s bee hives vary between 50-70, reflecting his deep understanding and commitment to beekeeping.
