16 Canadian Wineries Exhibit at the ProWein International Trade Fair in Düsseldorf, Germany

March 21, 2023 / by: Wines of British Columbia

Over 50,000 industry and media visitors from around the world are invited to discover Canada’s cool climate wines

Canada (March 17, 2023) – Canadian wineries from British Columbia and Ontario return to the international spotlight, joining together to exhibit at ProWein International Trade Fair for Wines and Spirits, March 19 to 21, 2023. Over three days, 16 producers from two of Canada’s most predominant wine growing regions will exhibit together within the “Wines of Canada” Pavilion Hall 14, Stand G48 in Düsseldorf, Germany, showcasing Canadian wines to the world.

The national pavilion will showcase premium red and white table wines, along with Icewine and sparkling wine, to highlight the diversity and quality of Canadian wines. From BC’s intense fruit-driven, fresh and structured wines to Ontario’s elegant limestone-based wines – trade, media and distributors are invited to meet the producers and sample exciting cool-climate wines including Chardonnay, Riesling, Cabernet Franc, Pinot Noir, Syrah and more.

“British Columbia wineries are thrilled to be returning to ProWein this year, where our wines will be shown alongside the best of the world,” says Laura Kittmer, Director of Communications at Wine Growers British Columbia, one of the organizers of the Canadian pavilion. “We are proud to have a strong presence in sharing Canada’s exciting wine story at this year’s international show, and it’s a great opportunity for our industry to build on the international recognition we have received for the quality of our wine and diversity of our terroir.”

“Ontario’s wine growing region is proud to be an integral part of Canada’s national wine story”, says Magdalena Kaiser, Director of Marketing – PR & Tourism at the Wine Marketing Association of Ontario. “Ontario VQA wines are the epitome of cool-climate and are expressive of our limestone-based soils. Producers have exciting wines they will be showcasing at this year’s ProWein fair.”

“Canada is emerging as an exciting country for wine – most people are surprised to find out just how many world class producers are making wine, ranging from small boutique operations to large modern wineries,” said Dr. Jamie Goode, well-known for his wine blog, wineanorak.com. “The wines that have emerged are as diverse as the regions that make them, ranging from precise, mineral Rieslings to rich Bordeaux-style blends. And some of the top producers from Ontario and British Columbia are at ProWein”.

About Wines of Canada

Canada’s wine growing regions are situated within the recognized growing zones of 30 and 50 degrees latitude north, which is shared by many other cool climate wine regions in Europe. Although small in scale by world standards, wine is a growing business in Canada, with wineries sprouting up wherever soil and climate permit the productive growing of vines. Together, Canada’s wine growing regions are comprised of 30,000 acres and 671 wineries.

Wines of Canada ProWein 2023 is a collaborative initiative of Wine Growers British Columbia and Wine Marketing Association of Ontario– to bring the country’s best wines to the world. www.winesofcanada.ca
