Overview:

Join industry colleagues and association representatives for this informative session on navigating labelling requirements for the Vintage 2024 Relief and Support “Crafted in BC” wines. Representatives from the CFIA, Vin-Star Consulting and the BCWA will be on hand to share regulatory details and answer questions including:

 

CFIA

Clarification on the legal terms ie. made in Canada with imported grapes/ ingredients.

    • Can wineries use Product of Canada?
    • Can wineries use Cellared in Canada?
    • Can wineries use Made in Canada from Washington Grapes?

Washington / Oregon / California:

Washington, Oregon and California rules for place names and AVA on labels

    • Can wineries use Washington or Oregon anywhere on the label?
    • Can wineries use AVAs anywhere on the label?  Within the story?
    • Is there a list of AVAs and regions that can’t be used on the labels?
    • Is there a contact list of representatives from each of the regional bodies?
    • Can wineries use specific vineyards? Within the story?
    • Can wineries use the Sustainable WA logo on labels?
    • Can the label say Grown in Washington made in X-Town/City, BC”?

BCWA

Use of ‘British Columbia’ on the labels/back labels (within the story)

    • Can we use British Columbia on labels?
    • Can we use ‘Crafted in BC’ anywhere on the label/back label?
    • Can we say grown in (various Sub-GI’s) within the story?
