Skip the Crowds: Tour BC Wine Country this Winter

November 28, 2014 / by: Darren

For Immediate Release:

KELOWNA, BC – One of the biggest secrets of wine country is that winter is the perfect time to explore tasting rooms, take in festive events and enjoy BC wine, without the crowds.

More and more BC wineries are not only keeping their doors open during the winter months, but are also offering festive winter events.

Winery associations throughout the Okanagan and Similkameen regions are partnering to create wine touring holiday celebrations this weekend and next weekend. Wine-paired dinners and mountain-top festivals will elevate your ski retreat with BC VQA wines.

“While most people think about touring in the warmer months, winter is an absolutely magical time to wine tour in BC,” says Maggie Anderson, marketing director for the BC Wine Institute. “If you are heading for a ski weekend, why not extend your stay and head into the valleys to visit some wineries? The service is so personalized and special; you leave feeling like a VIP.”

A more relaxed pace, a festive atmosphere and attentive service are all hallmarks of the winter touring season in BC wine country. There are short flights from major centres like Edmonton, Calgary and Seattle, and easy access to wine country from Vancouver – with areas like the Fraser Valley, Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands a short drive or ferry ride away. Getting to the interior regions from Vancouver, there are direct flights to Kelowna, Penticton and Kamloops from Vancouver.

For all your wine tour planning this winter, head to WineBC.com to find events, winery hours and use our handy trip planning tool. The 2014 British Columbia Winery Touring Guide, developed in partnership with Destination BC, also provides a complete list of the more than 250 wineries in BC, including grape and non-grape fruit wineries, as well as cideries.

Warm woolen sweaters and red wine. Sequins and sparkling wine. Warm fires and Icewines. Holiday gatherings and toasts to everything. These are just some of winter’s perfect pairings. Go find yours today.
