BC Wine Institute Announces New Board of Directors

July 17, 2012 / by: Darren

(Kelowna, BC) Following a successful annual general meeting, the BC Wine Institute (BCWI) is pleased to announce its new board of directors. The seven voting BCWI board members represent British Columbia wineries of all sizes, including large wineries (selling more than 700,000 litres annually), medium wineries (selling more than 90,000 litres annually), and the many small wineries.

Ingo Grady of Mission Hill Family Estate Winery (large winery), Shaun Everest of Tinhorn Creek Vineyards (medium winery), and Bill Eggert of Fairview Cellars (small winery) continue their terms. Josie Tyabji of Constellation Brands Canada (large winery), whose term also continues, was re-elected as chair for another term. Greg Berti of Andrew Peller (large winery) and Chris Wyse of Burrowing Owl Vineyards (medium winery) were both re-elected for another term.

Outgoing small winery representative Mike Raffan of Township 7 Vineyards & Winery is replaced by new board member Bob Johnson of Baillie-Grohman Estate Winery.

BCWI Executive Director Miles Prodan notes that “The BCWI is proud to welcome a board member from a new wine producing area. We look forward to working with Bob Johnson from Creston-based Baillie-Grohman Estate Winery.”

The BCWI thanks Township 7’s Mike Raffan for his years of contribution to the BCWI board of directors and the BC wine industry. Thanks also go to Kathy Mercier of Rock ‘n’ Horse Farm who represented the BC Grapegrowers’ Association for a portion of the last year. The BCWI welcomes Manfred Freese of Sun Ridge Vineyard who, in April, took over the role of the annually appointed BC Grapegrowers’ Association representative.

About the BC Wine Institute (BCWI)

Since 1990, the BCWI has played a pivotal role in taking BC’s wine industry from a vision to an internationally recognized niche region producing premium wines and providing quality wine tourism experiences.

Representing 129 member wineries throughout the province, the BCWI supports and markets the Wines of British Columbia (BC VQA), which gives consumers assurance they are buying a wine that is 100% from BC. The BCWI also markets the Wine Regions of British Columbia; delivers quality trade, media and consumer tastings; and acts as the voice of BC’s wine industry by advocating to government on behalf of its members.
